How Much Do Storage Units Cost in NYC?

While there are many storage facilities in NYC, prices vary widely based on the neighborhood and size of the unit. Before signing on the dotted line, it's key to figure out what size you'll need, and how much you're willing to pay for it. 

Prices fluctuate all the time, so to give you a broad understanding of the ebbs and flows of the NYC storage market, we're taking a deep dive into Manhattan Mini Storage's prices. 
Manhattan Mini Storage is the largest self-storage company in the city. As a result, their storage unit prices are the prices most New Yorkers are paying, so our survey of these prices should help you decide what size and location will be best for you and your storage needs.

Most storage facilities, including our own, allow you to choose from a variety of sizes when choosing a unit. 

If you're mainly packing clothing, you might only need a 4x4 unit. But if you've got clothes, a desk, and a fridge, you might need a 5x10 or even a 10x10 just to be safe.

Smaller units are usually the most affordable, but in some cases, a 5x5 unit in one location could cost almost as much as a 5x10 unit in another. 

For example, while most 4x4 units start at around $30-$35, at the 520 W 17th St location, 4x4 units start at $52. 

At the same time, 5x5 units at the 524 W 23rd St location start at $30.

The word "start" is important here, though.

Right now, 4x4 units at the 23rd St. location are around $100/month and 5x5 units are about $149/month. At the 17th St. location, 4x4 units are around $144/month and 5x5 units are $152/month.

At the 420 E 62nd location, too, for example, 4x4 units are currently $183/month, and 5x5 units are $234/month. And at the 543 W 43rd St. location, 5x5 units are currently $157/month.

While the prices at these locations are by no means permanent, they're a good indicator of how area-dependent unit prices are. 

There are storage units all over the place in New York, so you should never worry about being able to find a unit to use. If you've got the time to look around for the most affordable options, you might get a much larger unit for a fantastic rate.

In the end, it all depends on how far you're willing to travel to visit your stuff from time to time, or even on move day for that matter. But when you start looking at prices throughout the city, you may well get lucky with your local facility, too.
